WiSe 22/23
We are very glad to welcome the association "Floating Berlin", represented by the architect & artist Serena Abbondanza and the designer Garance Maurer, as our guests to hold our 3rd lecture this semester on the topic "Aging in Architecture".
Floating Berlin is a self-organized space and group, a "natureculture site" (Haraway) and "third landscape" (Clément) situated in the rainwater retention of former airport Tempelhof in Berlin. Initiated in 2018, the Association is prototyping a collective and collaborative approach to the negotiation, maintenance and mediation of hybrid urban infrastructures in Berlin and beyond.
Serena Abbondanza is an architect and artist with a current focus on artistic research on spatial justice, urban struggles and decolonial contexts on built environments. She is student of Art in Context (UdK Berlin). Serena started working as a student on the built structure at Floating University during its first opening period in 2018. From then on she has been curating the Thirsty Thursdays, supervising production and site care.
Garance Maurer is an independent designer and transdisciplinary artist trained as a textile designer in ENSCI-Les Ateliers (Paris, 2018). Tending to cultivate alterity and care, collaborative practices, and community knowledge, she’s an active member of Floating Berlin. She entered the project through volunteering during construction phases and site care in 2021 and is now part of the core team working in various groups, such as communication and program.ed the teaching assignment through crowdfunding.
